Blog 7- The Tell- Tale Heart - Sukhmeet Kaur

In the short story, "The Tell-Tale Heart" written by Edgar Allan Poe, the male protagonist also known as the main character of the story is on a strange and peculiar mission. His mission is to kill the old man that he is living with. The old man has done no harm to the protagonist. The only thing that bothers the protagonist is the "eye" of the old man. So for seven days straight the protagonist first waits for the old man to go to bed, and then slowly, creepingly enters his chamber and tries to kill him but does not succeed. The protagonist wants for the old mans eye to open so he can kill him. Throughout these seven days the protagonist is becoming insaner and cannot get a grip on himself. Then on the eighth day, when he finally does kill the old man, the screams of the old man awaken the town causing police to enter his house. The panicked protagonist decides to bury him in the very chamber but upon the arrival of the police cannot keep calm having guilt rise over him, admitting to the murder. Overall, after trying so hard to kill the old man, the insane protagonist ends up confessing due to guilt. This story was a great read, and I do request it to others. Good luck!
